What is Free First Time Central Heating Grant?

As part of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme initiated in 2013, the UK Government has been working to reduce carbon emissions and fuel poverty. The FTCH grants assist low-income households by providing access to the latest technology in heating systems, funded by the UK Government. This grant covers both the purchase and installation costs of the equipment.

While this is a grant and not a loan, meaning you don’t have to repay it, it does not guarantee 100% funding. Depending on the government’s criteria, you may need to cover minimal to no costs for your new heating system.

What Is Energy Company Obligation Scheme?

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) Scheme is an initiative of the UK Govt. to make cutting-edge and efficient heating solutions available to low-income households. In this scheme, the government has collaborated with prominent energy companies in the UK, where the companies are obligated to provide energy efficient, government-funded heating solutions to eligible households.

Check Your Eligibility for the Grant

You must meet strict criteria set by the Government of the UK to qualify for the FTCH grant. The criteria are as follows:

You must be the house owner or a tenant in a private property.
Your house must have a D, E, F or G rating in EPC (Energy Performance Certificate).
Your home must have no heating systems installed before.
You must be receiving at least one of the following benefits:

Income Support
Universal Credit
Child Benefit
Working Tax Credit
Income-Based Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA)
Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Pension Credit
Savings Credit
Housing benefit
Child Tax Credit

If you are not receiving any of the benefits mentioned in the previous point, you must have an income of less than £31,000 per year.
